HOW TO SURVIVE A HOME RENOVATION
Soon, everyday life in your busy home will be made simpler, more organised and totally gorgeous with our new layouts and room designs. The hum drum will no longer weigh you down and your home will become a space you just love to be in. Everything will feel exactly where it should be, including you.
Stunning vistas will welcome you into each room and all of the functional parts of life will be taken care of behind the scenes. Your home will be decorated to your taste, combined with our design expertise, and filled with tones and textures you are naturally drawn to. It will feel like the very best space in the whole world, encouraging you to relax and enjoy the space made just for you. You've worked hard for this and you deserve it!
But……this is going to be a long and challenging journey. So how can you prepare to live through it?
WHAT IS RENOVATING REALLY LIKE?
Once we've finished all of the designs, the technical plans have been done and we've got all of your items in our warehouse it is time to get the tools out. Your new home is the one we have been planning for months, the one you've obsesssed over and finally we are starting to make it real. As exciting as this is, it can also be daunting, messy and stressful. It will be an emotional roller coaster to see the home you bought pulled apart and recreated.
There will inevitably be bumps in the road, delays, unexpected findings, delivery issues and ideas that cannot quite be realised. I know this sounds like doom and gloom but it is based on experience of working in this industry for more than a decade. There will always be problems, but trust us, there will always be a solution and we will find the perfect one for you.
We know you want your home finished as quickly as possible, any delay to the proposed schedule will be frustrating. As the process moves on there will inevitably be a desire to 'just get it done' and to try to jiggle the the order of the plan to have visible signs of moving forward. We ask you to please bear with us, and know we are doing things in a certain order because it is the most time and cost efficient overall. Those few extra weeks in the Airbnb rather than living in the dust will pay dividends both to the timeline and to the end results.
LEARN TO LIVE WITH LESS FOR A WHILE
We always recommend you do not live on site at a major renovation. You have seen it a million times on property TV shows and it never, ever helps!
We will make sure you have a plan for where you will live. Your needs will of course depend on the extent of the work. Maybe you have a large enough home where we can section off the renovation and create temporary spaces for you to live in. Maybe the renovation plans are simply too big to live through and you need to rent elsewhere. Either way you will be living away from your normal environment, probably out of boxes a little and you will certainly feel displaced. This can be really hard but it is so much better than trying to live in a building site.
Trust us, living on site through a renovation is the sure fire way to loose your sanity, patience and to make the project slower for all parties. It is much quicker and your mental health will thank you for booking that Airbnb or a few months with the in-laws!
TIP #3. HAVE FAITH IN THE FINISHED RESULT
Don't be scared by the process. I know it is daunting but we will absolutely get you there.
There will be days when the frustrations are just too hard to bear, when the progress is slower than you'd hoped and you’re sick and tired of the white walls of the apartment you've rented. Keep the visuals and materials close by, look at them and remember the end result will absolutely be worth the journey.
We are always here for you, so if it is all a little too much and you just need to chat, call us. We have done this many times over and we do understand.
